The one I'm using calls for Borax, ivory soap bars and washing soda (I used Arm & Hammer brand). Look at tipnut.com for some simple recipes. Remarkably good luck so far. I was surprised to find the clothes are actually softer than normal out of the dryer even without fabric softener (which I never use). I'm waiting to see if after a few weeks anyone complains of allergic reactions to the new soap or if clothes start looking dingy. If neithe of those things occur, I think I'm sold on it. My cost for homemade is about 2 cents a load compared with about 24 cents a load for store bought Tide. We do an average of ten loads a week even in my HE high capacity machine. That adds up pretty quickly.

Same with the dishwasing detergent. Tipnut had some good suggestions for replacing dishwashing detergent and rinse agent both.

I'm shifting slowly from the 'frugal' category into the 'miserly' category. I'm looking for more ways to cut costs without it impacting our daily life.otherwise known as momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00364269353041509784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2865757762111372388.post-27314702789798637492011-01-18T17:38:05.886-05:002011-01-18T17:38:05.886-05:00The text I received last night:

Is it more expensive to make than the store bought stuff? Is it easy?
