Fun at School

Grace wore several interesting items to school last week.
It was Red Ribbon Week.
I asked Grace if she knew what Red Ribbon Week was about.
She said she did, then proceeded to name all of the fun things the school does during that week...
pajama day
crazy hair day
crazy hat day
favorite team jersey day
wear red day
She did not mention drugs once.
Ummm, I think the school has diluted the message with the fun activities.

She had a blast though.
I think her favorite day was pajama day.

Grant had a fun day at school yesterday.
He did not wear his pajamas, but he wore the next best thing...
his Halloween costume!

He dressed up as Woody from Toy Story.
I thought it very providential that his buddy sitting at his table came dressed as

also a character from Toy Story.

There were Halloween snacks to eat
and games to play
and book to read
and treat bags to take home.
He was
by the time I got him home.
David won't have to look too far to shoot a deer this fall.

This one even had antlers.
Have a good day!

Grant has a new love in his life.
He talked me in to buying  him strawberry milk.

No surprise....

He drank the whole thing!
That would lead to my next thought....
Seeing as how he is built like a sherman tank and he is usually off the chart on growth chart percentiles,
we are trying to get him eat a little bit healthier.
So far it is working (please disregard the above pictures of strawberry milk).
How do we address this since we really don't want to talk about
"being fat" or "being on a diet"?
We ask him once a week or so to go weigh and
"tell us his numbers".
Then we talk about trying to keep his numbers healthy.
He thinks it is a game and has fun weighing and telling us "his numbers".
Hopefully, there is a little less Grant to love the next time you see him.

His kindergarten class went to a pumpkin patch recently.

This is the only field trip they have in kindergarten.
He had a blast playing on the hay bales with his friends.

Petting Zoo
Other Grant Stuff....
Grant loves to read library books.
Ninety-nine out of one hundred of them will always be non-fiction.
The subject doesn't, dinosaurs, castles, rainbows, snow, tractors, horses...
anything non-fiction.
Grant has learned to whistle like a pro.
He can whistle a tune with the best of them.
Ask him to demonstrate.
He loves to whistle all of the time.
(including in the car!!!!  Ahhhhhh!!!)
Mario Kart is his favorite Wii game to play.
Routinely he beats me at this game.
He does not beat me because I am nice and let him.
He beats me
he is that much better than I am!
Grant is into teasing and jokes.
He loves to tell me whoppers and usually he can convince me he is telling the truth.
Then I feel pretty dumb when he chimes in with
He listened to a whole lecture from me about getting a color change on his behavior chart one day before finally telling me he was "just teasing" and had NOT gotten in trouble that day.
Grant is getting soft.
He voluntarily put on jeans today to play outside.
If you know him well, you know that is significant.
(still no shoes and socks though, just jeans)
Target pizza is the favorite place to eat after school.
We eat there once a week whether we need it or not.
Hey, he's my last one.
He gets spoiled.
Tying shoes is the newest hurdle on the road to growing up.
We do criss-cross very well.
Through the rabbit hole is totally killing him.
His fat fingers cannot hold those little strings!
For now, Mom continues to be the official shoe tier.
Lots going on in the news.
Praying for those in the path of the storms out east.

Maize Maze

We recently returned to Devine's Family Farm
for another stab at navigating a corn maze.

The cooler weather this year left Grant smiling most of the day.
Last year he about melted from the heat before we stumbled our way through the maze.

First, we tackled the beginner maze.
You know....the one with police tape marking the entire path!
Yes, we made it.

Then we moved on in our quest to conquer the corn.

This year, instead of wandering aimlessly, backtracking, and depending on luck to find our way through the big maze,

we made full use of our six member team to mark alternate paths and ensure we were always moving in the right direction.
We probably cut our time from last year in half.
Of course, the maze was different this year but equally as large as last year's maze.
Then it was on to more exciting things....
like bovine milking

pumpkin picking

wagon riding

pillow bouncing

duck racing
body flipping

face planting!
His back flip was a total F A I L!!!
It has been a busy weekend around here.
John went with friends Friday night to
which is found in
The first link will take you to some pictures of how the place has looked the past several years.
The second link will take you to the official Waverly Hills Sanatorium website where it shows the history of the building.
Creepy stuff.
I would love to go see the building...
in the daytime.
Emily got her new  mouse   hamster today too.
I'll have to get pictures of the new zoo pet soon.
Hope you had a good weekend.

21 and counting

Amiga made three.

Hard work
and a little fun
Our married life had just begun.

Then two babies
Our lives were blessed.
Family we cherished.
Who would have guessed?
We didn't stop at only four.
We then added

(Nah, I really didn't plan this to rhyme!)
(in case you were wondering about that)
So here we are...
ain't it great?
(((Bet you can't guess the next line!!!)))

Our family of six....
will NEVER be eight!!
Who would have thought twenty-one years ago that we would be where we are today?
I could not have predicted the path we have traveled,
nor would I change one bit of it.
The good times I cherish,
and the rest just makes me love and appreciate you more.
Thanks for 'doing life' with me.
Love you!
