In Case You Were Wondering

In case you were wondering......

 exactly what the inside of

a genuine

tobacco barn

looked like...........

i wanted to be helpful and give you a little glimpse.

I'm nice like that.

No need to thank me.

In case you WEREN'T wondering.......

I showed you anyway.

***************************

We've been to the farm this weekend......Have you noticed a pattern?  I'm gone.  No posts.  I have no wireless connection out there, along with no phone, no cable, no internet, no TV, no ipod, no videos, no......you get the idea.

What I DO have out there is time with the family.  Time not distracted by other things.  Time to step aside from the busyness of life and marvel at the work that went into building a tobacco barn.  Time to marvel at the way the light plays through the cracks in the walls and shows all the dust particles dancing in the air where my three year old's feet just stirred the powder into flight.

Time.

I'll take that any day.

******************************

I've got laundry calling my name.  I have a standing Sunday evening date with the laundry room.  I try to keep life exciting  like that.  The internet is slow tonight anyway.  I'll post more tomorrow......if I get some

TIME.

TRADE     TRADE     TRADE

If anygody has wiffle balls, I'll trade you a pencil.  Meet me at locker 91.
-  Zeke P.

I will teach anyone how to make a really cool origami bird in exchange for three baseball, basketball or football cards. Meet me at my table during free time.
- John S.

I am trading home made book marks for small magnets.  Meet me at locker 116 of a morning or evening.  Tell me the design and it should be done the next school day.
- Emily S.

I am willing to trade a piece of candy for three pieces of loose leaf paper.  For more information about the trade meet me at locker 103, lunch or at playtime.
- Jamin W.

Do you need note cards?  Come to locker 124 at the end of the day.  You can get your hands on ten note cards for one basketball card that looks new!  Hope to do business with you soon!
- Lucas N.

If you like matchbox cars or hotwheels cars then I'm the guy for you.  Come see me at locker 94 with any kind of locker decoration.  There is only one car every day so you have to be the first.  Offer ends on the last day of school.
- Cameron C.

Who said the economy is in a slump?  The art of barter is alive and well at our elementary school.  These fifth graders publish a paper once a month.  There are pages full of kids trading products and skills for wanted items.  John was publisher for the last classified ads section this month.  The items above are just a small portion of the ads in the paper.  I think it's a pretty neat newspaper.  It is published online and available on the website for parents and students to see.  Isn't technology a wonderful thing(when it works)?

I wonder if there is a market for decorated easter cookies?  Wonder what they could get for a few of those?

Grant got in his car with his sunglasses on and the car trunk packed.  He looked to Grace and said "I'm backing out of the driveway now Grace.  Tell me bye!"  Then he said, "Love you.  I'll call you when I get there!"  She promptly ran over and kissed him and yelled BYE!

These two are so funny sometimes.  Yes, I know.  I am biased.

Elastigirl or Honey: the great debate

Meet Hellen Parr.

Mild mannered mother by day,
 but at night,

she assumes her secret superhero identity of

Elastigirl!!!

My two younger kids have killer imaginations that must have gone into overdrive lately.  We've been watching the movie The Incredibles a lot.  This has transferred into their playtime.

Grant has become Bob Parr.......

who REALLY works secretly as

Mr. Incredible.

Stick with me here......I've really not lost my mind (yet).

When the kids are playing, Grace takes on the role of the lovely Mrs. Parr, otherwise known as Elastigirl.

The crisis has arisen from their still limited understanding of English.  You see, Grant swears the lady's name is Elastigirl.  Grace swears her name is Honey.  Why?  Because that's what her husband calls her throughout the movie.  Neither of them know her name is actually Hellen Parr.

I hear this issue being discussed loudly between the two of them about every ten minutes all day long right now.  Makes. Me. CRAZY.  Not that they argue, but that they then come to me to settle their argument.

No matter which way I decide (or if I make no decision at all) I always make someone unhappy.

All because Honey's real name is Hellen Parr, not Honey or Elastigirl.

Some day I will look back at this and laugh.

I know that.

But not today.

**************************

My kids made it into the traditional middle school program.  David took the call today from the principal telling us the news.  I am excited.  I am excited for them.  I think it will be a good experience for them.  I think it will move them out of their comfort zone a little bit and see for themselves just how capable they are.  I think that's good.

 ************************

No time to post much tonight.  Laundry calling my name upstairs.

Kid Stuff

Grace decided to go swimming today.  She was trying out her new suit.

Not to be outdone by his sister, Grant decided to take a shower in our bathroom.
I guess he needed some water fun too.

It's that time again.
 Easter cookies to decorate.
 They all love doing this.
 I'm not sure why.
Maybe it has to do  with eating their own art.

Whatever the reason,
they do LOVE it.

Here are some of the finished products.
Grant's is the one with the purple blob on it.
In his mind, more IS better!!
He would cover each cookie in a mountain of icing if I didn't stop him.
He iced two and ate them.
He iced the third one and got mad and quit when I wouldn't let him eat it too.

Pictures of John's pinewood derby car.
He finished his races with a first, third, fourth and I think a second place finish.
He did not do well enough to get to go to regional derby this weekend.
I don't think he cared too much.

I thought he did pretty good for a first year trying.
He made the car stand too.
It was  a project he did to earn his craftsman badge.

Busy weekend.
Busy week ahead.

Good night and God bless.
